Baltimore County votes to open health benefits to same-sex couples

Baltimore County’s Health Care Review Committee agreed to extend health care benefits to same-sex couples legally married in other states, starting Jan. 1, 2012.

The provision, recommended to the committee by Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz, will apply to all county employees.

I am pleased that the Health Care Review Committee acted on my recommendation this week,” Kamenetz said in a statement. “Extending these benefits to couples legally married in other states is the right thing to do.”

The Health Care Review Committee is composed of a representative of each of the Countys six unions, the Supervisory, Management & Confidential Group, the Labor commissioner and the Insurance administrator. The com
