Motor insurer finds UK is a nation of in-car flirts

The UK has been shown to be a nation of in- car flirts, with many drivers admitting they flirt with other motorists on the road, men being the biggest culprits.

According to a nationwide survey by women’s car insurance specialist, Diamond, two-fifths of British motorists flirt with other drivers and 15 per cent have crashed their car or had a near miss after being distracted by someone they fancy.

The insurer questioned 3,000 people and found almost half of men and over a third of women admit to flirting with other motorists, however men were the most guilty of flirtatious behaviour, with three times as many men than women admitting they flirt with other drivers on a daily basis.

Health insurer finds vast majority not saving for their care in old age

Around 84 per cent of Brits are not putting any money aside to pay for care when they are elderly, highlighting the severity of the escalating long term care issue, according to new research from health insurance specialist National Friendly .

To make matters worse, this lack of saving is despite 77 per cent of people believing that the money provided by the state would not be sufficient to cover their costs if they needed help with their care. The research also revealed that 77 per cent of people are unaware of the options available to them if they had an elderly relative who needed help with their care.

Commenting on the research, National Friendly CEO Richard Sear said: “We are living in the age of ageing (with the number of 85 year olds in the UK set to double by 2026), where funding for elderly care is a major national issue. Read more…

Britons advised not to cancel car insurance policy mid term

Car insurance customers have been warned that cancelling a policy mid-term can prove costly.

Writing for MSN Money, Omotola Akerele observed that many customers wrongly expect to get back the proportion of the premium that applies to the remaining period.

Unfortunately, however, many car insurance providers will calculate the refund based on a system of short-term rates , MS Akerele noted.

“Therefore, if you cancel in the third month, you might only be refunded 50 per cent of your annual premium,” she warned.

“If you cancel in the sixth month, just 20 per cent and in the ninth, tenth or 11th month you may get nothing at all.”

Meanwhile, Will Thomas, head of motor insurance at confused.com, has told moneynews.com that many Britons may end up paying more for their car insurance policies if new European Union rules are introduced.

He warned that any regulations preventing providers from using gender as a factor could have a negative impact. Read more…
